This post is to advise you of important information concerning a small lightning caused fire located east-south-east of Ponderosa Springs and to make you aware of a Forest Service fire information meeting scheduled for tomorrow evening. The fire is named the Valentine Fire and as of now comprises 14 acres burning in hardwood litter and timber. It is not an aggressive fire due to recent rain showers. The Forest Service is letting the fire burn slowly, and is preparing plans to allow the fire to continue to burn in a much larger area south of Ponderosa Springs in order to reduce the future fire risk to our homes. This area south of us was targeted for a controlled burn when conditions permitted, and the conditions now appear favorable, depending on rain and atmospheric conditions. The Forest Service will hold an information meeting on the fire and plans for the controlled burn tomorrow, Monday, August 28th to be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Christopher Creek, Arizona starting at 6:30 pm. Included below is a map of the Valentine Fire and and an information release from the Forest Service. We will update the group as events progress. We encourage you to attend tomorrow night's meeting if you are able.
